Charleston County RoadWise announces a public input
opportunity for improvements to Bees Ferry Road, which will be funded by the Transportation
"Half-Cent" Sales Tax.
A public meeting on the Bees Ferry Road improvement
project will be held on Thursday, July 26, from 7-9 p.m. at the C. E. Williams Middle
School (640 Butte Street, Charleston, SC 29414).
The purpose of the meeting
is for project staff to provide information and receive public comments on plans
to widen Bees Ferry Road between U.S. 17 (Savannah Highway) and Highway 61 (Ashley
River Road) from a two-lane undivided roadway to a multi-lane divided roadway.
Those
attending the meeting will have a chance to comment on alternative designs for the
widening of Bees Ferry Road as well as plans for bicycle lanes, sidewalks, signal
systems at specific intersections, and other proposed changes.
The Bees Ferry
Road meeting follows similar meetings held earlier this month on improvements to
Harbor View Road on James Island and Johnnie Dodds Boulevard in Mt. Pleasant.
The
Bees Ferry Road improvements are a result of the 2006 bond referendum. Harbor View
Road and Johnnie Dodds Boulevard improvements are initial bond projects resulting
from the 2004 Transportation "Half-Cent" Sales Tax referendum.
Public
input is an essential part of the Charleston County government's RoadWise program.
During these meetings, the public is given an opportunity to gather information
that may affect them and voice their comments.
Gathering public input is an
essential role of the Charleston County RoadWise Program. Public information meetings
and hearings are critical components of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA)
process. The NEPA assessment involves the public where environmental impact is a
consideration.
Charleston County RoadWise is Charleston County Government's
management program for the construction of roads, highways, resurfacing, paving and
drainage projects that are being funded by the Transportation Sales Tax.
