Bees Ferry Landfill.

New proposal to eliminate the need to increase the height of the Bees Ferry Landfill.
See: Sheppard Recycling

The Bees Ferry Landfill is to be expanded and increased in height.
Previous Meeting:
Staff from Charleston County’s Solid Waste and Recycling Department presented the history of the Bees Ferry Landfill and the plans for the future use of the landfill and height restrictions.
About 170 people attended the meeting and many spoke in opposition to the plans.
Some of the complaints were:
Insufficient public notice .
County should consider recycling methods rather than "burying in a hole".
The Incinerator should be improved and not closed.
168 ft is too high. Debris would be blows onto neighborhoods and odors would be a problem.
See article in the City Paper on extending the life of the Incinerator.
