Subject: From Charleston Police Crime Prevention - Recent Vandalism Incidents:

Attention neighborhoods in the upper Hwy 61, Bees Ferry, and Glen McConnell Corridor

Over the past two weeks there were a few reported (and possibly a few un-reported) incidents of vandalism at pool areas in Grand Oaks. These may have been isolated incidents, kids are now back in school, but please pass on the following advice through e-mail trees, newsletters, web-sites etc. in your neighborhoods.

1) Parents need to know what their teens are doing and where they are.

2) Note that teens often get into trouble when “out for a walk” with their friends, not always late, sometimes even at 7 or 8pm.

3) Trespassers and vandals will be prosecuted. Most of the HOAs and Pool Associations are on board with this.

4) Parents of errant youth can be held financially responsible for the damage their kids cause.

5) The youth will then have criminal records.

6) If your association elects to put up protective measures (taller fencing, video surveillance, better lighting) it will cost them (you) money, dues will likely have to go up.

7) Please teach youth respect for others’ property.

All residents, but particularly the immediate neighbors around the pool, should CALL POLICE at 577-7434 if they hear any sounds or see any activity at the pool after-hours, or anything that sounds suspicious, even if the pool is still open.

Contact Sgt. Shelor in the Crime Prevention office if you have questions. 720-2438.
